Why do my contacts burn when I put them in my eye?

I've been wearing contact lenses every day for a little under a year now. I recently purchased a new pair which are from the same optician as my previous ones. However, when I put them in my eye they burn very badly and I have to close my eyes for about a minute or two. After that it is fine. I have washed them several times and I have washed the case and even moved them to a different case but they still burn. Why is this happening?

You need to bring the new lenses back to the eye doctor that prescribed them and have them examined for any rough edges or contamination that simple washing would not remove.
