Can wearing lower prescription glasses help improve my eyesight?
I've had my same pair of glasses since I was in high school. Now, five years later my doctor has renewed my prescription for higher power lenses. My question is, if I decide to ditch my contact lens (that are my right prescription,) and use my glasses instead, is there a chance of my overall eye sight improving?

My Reply: No, I wore my prescribed contact lenses while my vision continued to get worse. I never used my glasses. This is why I thought that maybe I could retrain my eyes; use the glasses that have a lower power and see if my eyes are able to adjust to that instead of being so dependent on my contacts.
NO. Trust me on this. I asked my eye doctor too this question. Think of it this way… You WANT to be able to see 20/20 or perfect vision. If you're using your old glasses which are more than likely NOT perfect vision anymore… You're basically looking at everything with an improper vision. That is NOT healthy for your eyes. You need to be able to see clearly. That's why eye doctors recommend people to get an eye exam at least once a year. As you get older, your vision will start to stabilize. But as you're still growing, it'll constantly change. Hope I helped!

Your eyesight changes because the shape of your eye changes. Wearing your glasses or contacts doesn't make your eyes change shape, nor will it prevent your eyes from changing shape. Wearing glasses or contacts that don't match the prescription you require won't make your eyes better or worse, it will just make it so you can't see clearly.
All your glasses or contacts do are to bend the light so you can see clearly. That's it.
Its really not about your eyes getting dependent. If for example your eyesight was about muscle strength then it would make sense that your eyes would be dependent. But it isn't. Its about the shape of your eye which teh contacts/glasses dont' affect. As you grow the shape changes so you start wearing glasses/contacts and then your eyesight gets worse. You think the two are connected but in fact they aren't. There isnt' anything you can do other than stop growing.
All that will happen if you dont' wear the rigth perscription is that you wont' be able to see as well. Sometimes you can think you aer seeing better as your brain gets used to poorer eyesight and uses tricks to cope, but an eyesight test wont' show it is as good and in fact you are just stop noticing that your eyesight isnt' good.
